Nichols Nursery is a family-run business, with over 100 varieties of Japanese Maples, that has been committed to specializing in Japanese Maples since 1974. Norman Nichols, founder and green thumb extraordinaire, has become known as one of the leading experts in grafting and growing Japanese Maples in Western North Carolina. Norman's two sons, Matthew and Timothy, have grown up working in the maples and are becoming masters in the art as well. Nichols Nursery can be found at local tailgate markets and garden shows in the Carolinas.

With over 30 years of growing experience, Norman Nichols knows what it takes to produce high quality Japanese Maples. Norman believes that the only high quality graft is a low side-graft, which eventually will become hard to identify as the plant ages. Hand-grafting thousands of Japanese maples each year, Norman insures that all scion wood is collected from outstanding specimen trees and is grafted onto self-grown high quality seedlings to create a beautiful masterpiece.
