Red Emperor exceeds “Bloodgood” Japanese maples in growth habit and this tree has a lighter almost translucent quality to the leaves. It holds its rich, dark red foliage well throughout the summer months, and has a brilliant scarlet fall display. The leaves come out two weeks later than Bloodgood, therefore avoiding the chance of frost damage in late spring. Red Emperor makes into upright round crown tree. It grows to the height of 15 feet. Plant this tree in sun or semi- shady areas. It is a very cold hard Japanese maple. This tree is also known as "Emperor 1".
